Suggestions PLEASE!!!!
So it has come to a point in our little monkey's life that she has to give up her first addiction...THE BOTTLE!!!!! We have tried sippy's (s/p) but she uses them as a ball to launch at one of us or chews on them.....I am doing the weaning the hard way and not giving her a bottle at all till nap time...but, I can't seem to get a sippy that doesn't drown her or it seems to not have anything coming out. If anyone has any suggestions on a better way to do this or a good sippy brand you would be a HUGE help...its hard especially because now she sits there holding her sippy yelling BABABA at the top of her lungs...it can be a bit challenging having a smart kid!!!!

We stopped at 10 months. We used the Avent bottle to sippy cup thing. And she didn't like it much. Then we tried gerber graduates and those worked great! She took to them just fine. They are tilted a little bit to help them be able to tilt more and be similar to a bottle. At about 11 and a half months she was drinking out of a regular cup. When we go out she uses a water bottle.
hola! are you really trying to break the bottle? is that what the dr. said? i thought you could keep them on it until at least a year?? i am giving sam 3-4 a day- and then a couple with juice. the sippy cup i have for sam, has a squishy mouth part and it seems more like a bottle to him, he can just squeeze it and it comes out. it was one of the cheeper ones at walmart. it took a bit for him to figure it out, but i figure i can give him juice in it and still do a bottle a few times a day. it will be so nice to go to regular whole milk soon! sorry i am responding on your blog instead of email, but i don't have it.
you're nuts. don't do it. beckett is 22 months and still on the baba. the dentist says it is TOTALLY okay. she's got enough going on without taking away her baba. ains was two. she will be okay. she's getting more milk than she will in a sippy. and if she loves it, leave it.

Isaac was pretty opposed to the sippy cup at first also. I'd suggest trying a few different types to see if she may like one more than another. We tried several different kids and eventually tried the "Nuby" which has a spout that is silicone like the bottle nipples but it is shaped like a sippy cup spout. This was a nice transition because it was so similar to the bottle, so he was more open to it. They are kind of obnoxious because they're not as spill proof as the others - but once he would drink from that one, it was easier to gradually get him to drink from the others. Also, I found it easier to give him something other than milk in the sippy at first - like water or juice. If it was milk, he wanted it in a bottle, period. So, it was easier to get him to drink something else from the sippy cup first, then the milk after he was more used to it.
Anyway, that was my experience a couple months ago - hope it helps a little!
I say don't rush it. Sippy's are harder to figure out for little ones and you want to make sure they are getting enough formula/milk. Eli was almost 2 and Blake was 18 months. They were both ready, so it was much easier. Plus with the new baby she might need it for comfort. Call if you need anything!
