in May of this year, after a lot of nagging from his wife Dave contacted his Uncle Jim to see if he could come to WA for a week and shadow him and his son. Jim owns Gaffney Construction, one of the top commercial construction firms in Snohomish County. yes i am totally bragging, deal with it.
anyway, dave came up and impressed them with his work ethic.
within a month we got an offer for him to take a job as Assistant Estimator/Project Manager for Gaffney Construction. it was to start part time, so he could get the stuff done around his parents house they asked of him. that lasted a week and he has been full time ever since.
he took it. the catch i was due to have Hudson in 2 weeks. Jim was fantastic and said come up when you can. we had Hudson and Dave was gone a week later. I had 6 weeks to get my house packed and say my goodbyes to friends. thank goodness for my mom and our wall family. they helped with the kids, my mom helped me pack and recover, and the emotional support i was given by sister in laws was phenomenal.
it was a hard 6 weeks. i was all over the place with emotions. Hudson was having issues and we didn't have an exact date of when we would all be back together, but, everything worked out.
we made it and hope to never look back.
Dave is in heaven at his job and to say it was meant to be would be an understatement. Gaffney has picked up i think 4 new jobs. he is busy and soaking up all the new learning experiences. he loves working with jim and joe. he has an amazing office and his job is flexible enough he is able to do the important family things with us.
we are living in Lynden (every time i say it i spell L-Y-N-D-E-N because i have been brain washed) it is about an hour and half from Dave's office. Dave grew up here and I am now understanding the appeal.
Lynden is a charming, tiny town. i mean tiny. its the kind of town where people leave their doors unlocked and everyone says hi no matter where you are. there is a bakery we go to 2-3 times a week. they already know us by face...not name. the kids have the same pre-school teacher that taught Dave. EVERYWHERE we go dave knows someone, but, won't say hi. they either went to school with him or his brothers and in our BRANCH (not ward) all i have to say is i am a Wall and they know where i belong. we go to the high school football games, because that is what you do on Friday nights. we walk front street after school or go get ice cream at the dairy. we have our routine and i have fallen in love with this little town. though dave's commute is not ideal we have thrown around the idea of making Lynden permanent. we are going to test out the winter and then decide.
i was talking to my mom yesterday and she said she had not heard me this happy in a long time. its true. i felt like our last 6 months in Utah were filled with stress lots of it. Hudson was the happiest thing that happened. once things got settled up here and we fell into life everything slowed down (not really) but everything felt right. felt good. and we. are. happy.
we are on our own. probably for the first time in 6 years. the closest family, the M Walls, live 3 hours away. we have seen them twice in the last month, but, its awesome to know we have them here for the important things.
the kids have started pre-school. at first it was just add and then her teacher mentioned she had a spot open in the morning session on the opposite days if Gavin wanted it. he did, dave did, i didn't. i am denial about my kids getting older. i caved to Dave and he started Monday.
hudson is awesome. i mean awesome. he is always happy. in the last week he has slept from 12-5 during the night and i feel like a new person. we have a nap schedule during the day and he is smiling and laughing up a storm. he is huge, already in 6 months clothes with a little room to grow. we are all in love with this little man. i forgot about this age, they are so fun and easy.
life is good.
