OVERWHELMED

so i know my blog yesterday left a lot of questions, i got a ton of texts from people wondering what the heck happened. i have no idea where to begin. Saturday we were planning on going to the zoo with Ken and Neat (as A would call them...Kenzi and Nate) considering its getting towards the end of summer. We got news that morning that my parents were going to be putting our sweet dog Sam to sleep that afternoon so I was already a train wreck. After a quick run to Walmart and me hurrying to get ready Dave walked in with what I now call "the face" he had received a phone call that Shaner was in a terrible accident in the town he goes to school in (U of Idaho, in Moscow, ID) and was now at the Harborview trama center in Seattle, WA. what happened? nobody really knows. he was with a few friends and some how fell 3 stories (not 5 as was believed before) to the ground below. we don't know if he was pushed, tripped, or what. at this point its the least of our worries. with in the first 24 hours he had already had surgery to remove part of his skull to relieve brain pressure from swelling...it is serious, something we (my family) has never delt with before. as of today, he doing as good as can be expected. the left side of his body is just thrashed from the fall. he however DID NOT break his neck or back an absolute, unbelievable, miracle! the hospital has him in a drug induced coma to let his body rest and give it time to heal. today they performed a breathing test, they removed his ventilator to see how he would do. the test didn't go well and after 4 min he was back on the machine. his body is just not ready. however, my uncle bob said tonight that if he even gets 4 min and 30 sec tomorrow that is a great improvement! the fact that he is ready for the breathing test at all is a shock to all of the medical staff, another great sign. he is responding to the voice of his loved ones, but, they are trying their hardest not to allow him to get to overstimulated. he recognizes commands and tries his hardest to complete them. he is on high doses of morphine and the michael jackson drug (as my uncle called it) to keep him comfortable and to keep him from fighting.
i can't tell you how much this kid (20 year old kid) means to me. we grew up with the same love of soccer and a great admiration for one another. he is a piece to the puzzle of this crazy family and we are just not ready to lose him! this will be a long journey, but, i, we are all on it together!
GET BETTER SHANER, THERE ARE SOME GREAT GAMES COMING UP! I LOVE YOU!
(thank you everyone for your concern, i am ok, just shaken up and concerned. sorry for the lack of communication, i am not one to talk during emotional times)
